Verderaime Makes History

Senior Daniel Verderaime etched his name into Liberty Common School history becoming the first wrestler from the program to place at the Colorado state tournament. Capping off a remarkable career, Verderaime’s performance at the state tournament showcased his resilience, skill, and determination.

Verderaime opened the tournament with an impressive second-period pin over Holy Family’s Jake Pounders. In the second round, he faced top-seeded Colton Lucero from Pagosa Springs, falling via major decision. Undeterred, Verderaime bounced back with a dominant 9-0 shutout victory over Cedar Ridge, keeping his podium hopes alive.

The crucial blood-round matchup saw Verderaime take on the tournament’s fourth seed from The Classical Academy where he delivered an emphatic 13-2 victory to secure his place in Liberty Common history. After a hard-fought loss to Moffat County, he rebounded in the 5th/6th place match, defeating Holy Family once again to close out his tournament run.

Verderaime’s final season solidified his legacy. A four-time state qualifier, he amassed over 100 career victories, setting a new standard for Liberty Common wrestling. His historic state placement marks a milestone for the program, paving the way for future Eagles to follow in his footsteps.
