Liberty Common athletics is off to a blazing start this year. Two junior-high teams capped off their seasons with a league championships and the high-school teams are in contention for state berths.
The athletic office is busy scheduling postseason competitions while the winter season gets underway. We are hiring new coaches and have been working to improve our facilities. The weight room has a new record board and the Colosseum now proudly displays the Capstone Virtues. In Olympia Hall, you will notice a TV where our Hall-of-Fame and other records will be posted.
The mornings, starting bright and early at 5:30 AM, are full of athletes coming in to hone their craft. It truly is a busy time in athletics for Liberty Common. The hectic schedule of athletics is work worth doing. The joy of the student-athlete when competing and the effort during practice shows we are fighting a just fight. Waking up in the morning and seeing 20-plus kids coming into the gym shows the students of Liberty are ready to put in the work necessary to achieve their goals. It bodes well for their futures.
The cross-country team is beginning its off-season today as I write this. Isabel Allori continues her dominant season by winning the Liberty Bell Invitational and a league title. The boys' team has been competitive this season and a strong group of juniors lead the way. Both teams now look to qualify for the state race.
Junior-High Cross-Country
In coach Jacob Rothman’s first season as Head Coach, he led the girls’ team in growth and competitiveness. Last season, the girls’ team had one participant.  This year, coaches were nervous there was not going to be enough space on the bus for the entire team. The girls’ team won the NPMLA league title and the St. Vrain Invitational. The boys’ team has also been competitive—finishing in the top five of several of their meets. The teams are preparing to race in the junior-high cross-country meet on Sat 21 Oct 2023.

Women’s Volleyball
High-school volleyball continues to compete well this season. Led by a strong core of seniors, the team has played a tough schedule and come away with some big wins. Senior Karli Krueger is showing why she is one of the best outside hitters in Northern Colorado by leading the league in kills. They were the first team to defeat Timnath Middle High this year in an amazing four-set match. The team is wrapping up its season soon and is looking to host the regional tournament before advancing to the state tournament in Denver.
Junior-High Volleyball
The girls’-volleyball team showed great improvement from their first game to their last this year. Liberty is excited to have coach Taryn Snell back after a several-year hiatus while raising her kids who now attend Liberty Common. Coach Fowler and Snell are excited about the future of junior-high volleyball at Liberty due to the improvement and dedication the girls showed this year.
Boys’ Soccer
The junior-high-soccer team continued their winning streak this season by taking the league title for the fourth year in a row. Coach Brian Long was able to field three full teams this year. We were fortunate to find the C-team some games so they could compete under the Liberty name. The team is loaded with 6th graders who have gained valuable experience. High-school coach Cyrus Salehi is going to be getting some good freshmen next year.
Men’s Soccer
The soccer team is looking to defend their six-year-league-title streak this Friday against Valley High School. The team has a strong group of seniors leading the way. Behind this senior class is a strong group of underclassmen getting valuable playing time on the varsity roster. After this weekend, the team will be in the playoffs as they look to make it over the semi-final hurdle that has stopped them the last few years.  As the team drops to 2A next year, the schedule will need to be revamped to accommodate some of those top teams.  Always wanting a tough schedule Coach Salehi is eyeing the future competition with excitement.
The golf team has wrapped up its season by sending two to state. Ryan and Micahel Woodley both played at the CHSAA state-golf tournament hosted by Raindance National. Weather made things complicated in the last stretch of the first day. Both played admirably. Michael Woodley finished in the top ten of the 3A-state tournament. The golf team will return a strong group of underclassmen next year led by Ryan Woodley.
